As soon as it is time to knit warm clothes, whether it be a hat, a sweater or a vest, the craftswomen immediately begin to be puzzled by the selection of yarn and the appropriate tools for it. An important step towards creating a cozy, soft thing is also the selection of patterns. Among all the splendor of the styles of knitted clothing, a separate group can be distinguished products, in the manufacture of which braids are used with knitting needles. Embossed braids and rhombuses, honeycombs and zigzags attract attention with an exquisite interweaving of smooth and broken lines. Such voluminous ornaments on warm clothes are perfect in themselves, however, for knitting a spring wardrobe, they can be supplemented with openwork paths and a mesh fabric.

Knitting braids - complex elements

According to their execution, braids with knitting needles are complex elements, therefore, knitting them requires certain skills and a manifestation of handicraft skill. Traditionally, it is recommended to knit a small sample in order to see the texture of the future product. When creating various types of weaves, in addition to the main set of tools, you will also need an additional knitting needle of a regular or special pattern. You can also use a pin. The choice completely depends on what the craftswoman has at hand, or how often she knits just such patterns, which means she owns all the relevant devices.

Knitting a complex braid with knitting needles is impossible without a detailed, readable diagram, which indicates not only the types of loops, but also the places of their overlaps. This element is one of the varieties of Aran patterns. If the choice of a knitter fell on a pattern that is simple in its execution, then the product knits with it many times faster. Very long and requiring special attention is work with knitting a fabric, on which there is a large number of various weaves, large and small braids, zigzags, rhombuses and other three-dimensional ornaments. However, after hard efforts and utmost diligence, a hand-made thing turns out to be very beautiful and neat. Inexperienced craftswomen should start mastering braids with knitting needles using simple patterns and, over time, increase their skill level by switching to more complex patterns - knitting arans.

Braids of the scheme:

We picked up several patterns of braids with knitting needles with patterns. We hope you find them useful.

Knitting, in which simple or intricate braids appear on the product, is called Aran. This style came to needlework circles from Ireland, or rather, from the three Aran Islands washed by the seas, where caring wives and mothers created warm fishing sweaters for their husbands and sons, in which they used knitting elements in the form of braids. Knitters of the past did not use drawn “braid” patterns with knitting needles, but transferred their knowledge from one woman to another. According to the beliefs of the population, braids are the ropes of fishermen, nets are islands, zigzags or chains are paths among coastal stones, the tree of life is unity. Each sweater was fraught with the history of the craftswoman, which she carefully invested while knitting.

To connect the product with its own history, you can use knitting needles using a different number of loops.

"Braid" of 9 loops

The type of knitting of a braid for 9 loops is considered the simplest in the respective authoritative circles. This braid looks like this:

Its scheme is shown in the following figure (front side):

The diagram explains how to tie four such braids on the canvas at once, but the article will consider how to tie one braid, because it can be easily repeated after the distance necessary for a particular product.

First you need to complete 2 front rows. In the third row, it is necessary to remove 3 loops on an additional knitting needle (in the absence of one, you can use a safety pin), knit 3 more facial ones. Then knit the left loops in the front way, the last loops - there will be 3 of them - we knit with the front stitch.

From 4 to 8 rows we knit with front stitch. We start the ninth row with 3 front loops, continue by removing 3 on an additional knitting needle, then 3 front loops, return 3 loops from the auxiliary knitting needle in the front way. Next, you need to knit the next 4 rows with the front stitch.

The continuation of the “weaving” of the braid lies in the repetition of the actions already completed in the work from the mentioned third row and beyond.

Braid with rapport 16

A 16 st braid requires an initial cast on of 22 sts, of which 16 will be for the braid itself. The pattern itself will look like this:

In the 1st row, we perform 2 loops in the wrong way, 16 facial, again 2 wrong.

The second row starts with 4 facial loops. Then there are manipulations with the loops of the braid, which are performed in the indicated order: remove 2 loops, leave at work, tie 2 front, return 2 loops in the front way, remove 2 loops in front of the work, make 2 front, return 2 loops “face”, tie 4 facial. We knit 4 rows with this algorithm, taking into account the pattern of the braid.

The next row, according to the account 7, we start with 2 purl loops, remove the next 4 behind the work, then overlap with 4 front loops, return 4 removed loops in the front way. Again, we remove 4 loops to leave them before work, continue with 4 front ones, and return the removed loops and “turn” them into front ones. Purl stitch ends the row.

We work with 8 loops

To connect the mentioned braid, you can use the following scheme:

Braids of 8 loops look similar to braids of 9:

The beginning of knitting consists in a set of 16 loops, of which the braid will take 8 loops, 6 loops are used for framing, and 2 more are edging, with which each row begins and ends. The first row begins with purl 3 loops (except for the hem), continues with 8 facial loops, ends with 3 purl. The next row, the second, and all rows of an even order must be knitted according to the pattern.

The third row uses both left and right movement. First, 3 purl loops go, and then, in the right direction, 8 loops move, which we knit as follows:

  • to the left: 4 loops are removed before work, 4 front ones are knitted, 4 removed are knitted in the front way;
  • to the right: the same steps with a difference in the room of the removed loops behind the work.

We finish the row with purl loops. We knit the fifth row, as at the very beginning. From the 7th row, we repeat all the described work, starting from the 1st row.

Small 4 loop braid

Schematically, knitting a braid of 4 loops can be depicted as follows:

In real form, it will look like this:

To make a 4-loop pattern, you should dial 12 loops, of which 6 are used for the background, 4 relate directly to the braid itself, and each row will be started and finished with two edge loops.

In the first row we knit with purl loops 3 from each end of the row, and 4 front ones are placed in the middle. All even knit according to the pattern. In the third row, you can move the knitting of the braid lines to the left or right. It starts with three purl, and then we move 4 loops:

  • to the left: remove 2 loops before work, on an auxiliary knitting needle, knit 2 front loops, return the ones taken off in the front way, finish with 3 wrong ones;
  • to the right: we do the same steps, but the removed loops remain at work.

With the fifth row, we completely repeat the first row, and from the seventh we do all the work again.

Knitting a braid for 18 loops

To knit a braid of 18 loops, you can also use the above diagram.

18 loops woven into a braid look like this:

The creation of this volumetric braid takes place according to a similar algorithm described above.

Initially, you need to dial 28 loops, 10 of which serve as a frame. The first row, in the middle, consists of 18 knitted loops, which are “surrounded” by 5 purl loops at the edges of the row. We knit the next row in reverse: five loops from both ends of the front, and 18 - in the wrong way.

We knit the third row as the first, and the fourth as the second. In the fifth, we remove the edge loop, and we knit four in the wrong way. We tilt the knitting of the braid to the right, we knit 12 facial loops according to the pattern. Having expanded the work, it is necessary to knit purl loops in the amount of 6 loops, including the first one - here it does not act as an edge loop. Expanding the work again, it is necessary to knit the same 6 loops in the front way. It is necessary to turn the work again for knitting 6 purl loops, and turning it again, it is necessary to knit the same 6 loops with knit ones, but now placing them on an auxiliary knitting needle, which should be taken out before work. After, we alternate three rows of yarn: 10 - wrong side, 11 - face, 12 - wrong side. After these manipulations, we continue the repetitions from the fifth to the twelfth row inclusive, we form a braid of the length we need.

Having trained well in knitting at least two of these methods, you can safely proceed to experiments with various braid patterns on the canvas.

Knitting needles - easy and simple. With their help, you can create original things that are suitable only for you. Every woman has knitted outfits in her wardrobe: beautiful sweaters, scarves, warm mittens for the winter. Knitwear is now at the peak of popularity and it is justified. Many different techniques allow you to create creative, fashionable accessories and clothes.

One of the interesting and unusual patterns is a braid with knitting needles. This easy pattern, which even beginner needlewomen can master, has many techniques for performing. In any case, it is easy to learn how to knit it correctly - whether it is a braid of twelve, sixteen or three loops, you knit on straight knitting needles, or circular ones. Volumetric double or triple. These are the ones that will be discussed in this lesson..

A voluminous braid with knitting needles is knitted using the upper loops, or rather, their movement. Several auxiliary lines are knitted with these loops. The number of loops must be divisible by three. The pattern of a voluminous pigtail can consist of eighteen loops, six per element of the braid (there are only three of them). To knit voluminous braids, you will need two straight knitting needles, and one additional size smaller.

Volumetric pattern is knitted with front stitch. To begin with, the first 12 links are knitted, then the last 6 are performed in the amount of three strips. This is done to be able to transfer elements to the left side of knitting. The first and last loops of the rows also need to be knitted. The product will need to be turned over several times in the course of knitting.

When working on a new strip, you should leave the links on the additional knitting needle and knit the last six loops of the volumetric braid. Then all the links are knitted on the third knitting needle.

Now you need to complete 3 stripes without moving them. In the new row, all loops are moved to the right. Six links are transferred to an additional knitting needle, the rest are knitted four rows with turning over. Then loops are knitted from the auxiliary knitting needle. Then you will need to perform their alternation to the right side or left, through every third row. This is how you get a voluminous braid.

We bring to your attention a knitting pattern for a voluminous braid. With the help of it, it will be possible to easily master this technique.

Braid of nine loops with knitting needles

Let's look at the technique of forming a braid step by step. Cast on seventeen stitches. We start knitting from the first row:

  • We do not knit the edge. We knit three purl, nine facial and four purl.
  • We turn to the second row: here, too, we simply remove the edge and knit: three facial, nine wrong side, three facial. And we knit the last edge from the inside out. It turns out here is such a preparation.

  • Let's move on to the third row. We remove the edge, we knit three inside out. Here we will make the first move: we transfer three loops to the auxiliary knitting needle so that they are on the front of the work.
  • Now we knit three facial ones and transfer the loops from the auxiliary to the left knitting needle. We also knit them with facial ones. Then there are three facial and four purl. First transfer completed.

  • We knit the fourth and sixth rows in exactly the same way as the first, and the fifth as the second.
  • In the seventh row we make the second movement. We remove the edge, we knit three purl and three front ones. We remove the next three loops on an additional tool so that they are on the wrong side. We knit three front ones, we return the loops with additional. needles on the left. We knit them with facial ones, and the remaining loops inside out.

  • We knit the eighth and tenth rows as the first, the ninth as the second.

Now, to get the pattern, you just need to knit further according to the already given pattern. Alternate steps from the third to the tenth row until you get the pattern of the desired size.

You should get such a pigtail.

Pattern braid of 12 loops with knitting needles

This pattern is very popular right now.. It is with the help of it that now fashionable hats with pigtails are knitted. A voluminous braid pattern of 12 loops can decorate items such as cardigans, blankets, sweaters.

Knitting pattern for a braid of 12 loops

Braid of 16 loops knitting pattern

In the diagram, only the front rows are drawn, the wrong ones are knitted according to the pattern.

The rapport of this pattern consists of twenty loops, and fourteen rows.

Symbols for the scheme:

We knit double and triple braids

Double braid - one of the easiest patterns. It is very easy to learn and learn to perform. The double braid is so named because it consists of only two plexuses.

This is a very dynamic and mobile ornament, you can change it as you like. For example, increase or decrease the gaps between patterns.

In order to start knitting a double braid according to this pattern, you will need to dial the correct number of loops. There should be three for symmetry, two edging and plus loops for the pattern - their sum should be divisible by 12.

The first and fifth rows are knitted in the same way: three front loops, three wrong ones, the last three are knitted together inside out.

The second row is knit and purl on the other side.

In the third row, a transfer is made with an inclination to the left. Three knit and purl loops are knitted, for extra. the spoke is moved by three more. Then three loops are knitted inside out, and the moved ones are returned and knitted with the face. The seventh row is done in the same way, only with an inclination to the right.

With the help of this detailed diagram with a description, it will be easy for you to figure out how to knit a double braid with knitting needles.

A triple braid, at first glance, may seem like a complicated pattern for beginner needlewomen, but this is absolutely not the case. The entire first row is knitted with facial loops. All purl rows are performed in the same way. In the third row, five loops are not knitted, but transferred to an additional knitting needle. The next five are knitted face. Then ten more facial loops follow, and five are again transferred to an additional knitting needle. After that, five facial ones are knitted, and then all the loops that moved.

From the fifth to the eighth, all rows are knit face. Ninth row - five persons. n, five are transferred, five persons transferred are returned and knitted with facial ones. The eleventh row consists entirely of facial loops. Thus, the rapport of a triple braid is knitted.

A voluminous braid with knitting needles is a very interesting pattern, it will be useful for many beginner needlewomen to learn how to knit in this way. This pattern has many interpretations for every taste and color. You can knit almost anything you want with this pattern, because there are a lot of volume braid variations. There is, for example, a very beautiful Turkish braid with elongated loops, which will decorate a women's blouse, a children's sleeveless jacket, and a voluminous snood. A thick braided braid can serve as a decorative element for both a warm cardigan and a handmade bag. A convex braid of 15 loops is used when knitting hats and sweaters. Flat braids, which perfectly coexist with an openwork rhombus, are loved by beginner knitters, a herringbone braid is suitable for more experienced ones, because now it can be knitted diagonally and on two sides, symmetrically central to the axis, and this method requires skill. In general, not only diagonal braids can decorate a pattern in a canvas - a braid can be both vertical and transverse. There's even a double-sided braid that looks the same on both the front and back sides of the knit, so it's perfect for knitting scarves. The pattern can consist not only of whole braids - the texture of the canvas can also be created by their individual elements, such as in the Braid pattern. To understand which braid will look more spectacular on your knitting - large and lush, or it is better to choose small braids (weaving largely depends on the thickness and material of the thread), it is better to first knit a sample.

Relief pattern tourniquet (braid) of 6 loops 3x3 knitting needles

When knitting a tourniquet of 6 loops, move 3 loops to the left or right. It is usually knitted on the front loops on the wrong side or on a garter stitch. Just like the 4-loop harness, it looks good on products of any size, purpose, and is combined with other types of patterns. To simplify the knitting of the pattern, an auxiliary knitting needle is needed.

Knitting patterns of pattern - harness (braid) of 6 loops 0509

The diagrams show only the front rows, in the wrong rows, knit the loops according to the pattern.

Description of knitting pattern "harness (braid) of 6 loops"

For knitting pattern sample, consisting of one tourniquet, dial 14 loops. The number of loops is a multiple of 6 + 6 for the background + 2 edge. Begin and end each row with a hem stitch. The description of the knitting of the pattern "harness of 6 loops" is enclosed between the signs * *.

When switching to knitting a harness of 6 loops, it is necessary to dial into an additional loop from the broach in the row preceding the beginning of the pattern so that the fabric does not shrink. At the end of the knitting of the pattern, knit 1 time together 2 loops.

1st row - 3 purl, * 6 facial *, 2 purl.

2nd and all even rows - knit according to the pattern.

3rd row ( moving to the left circuit 1 ) - purl 3, * move 6 loops to the left: leave 3 loops on the auxiliary knitting needle before work, knit 3, knit 3 from the auxiliary knitting needle *, purl 3.

3rd row ( moving to the right circuit 2) - purl 3, * move 6 loops to the right: leave 3 loops on the auxiliary knitting needle at work, knit 3, knit 3 from the auxiliary knitting needle *, purl 3.

5th row - knit as 1st.

7th row - repeat rapport loops from the 1st row.

The distance between the movements of the loops (harnesses) can be increased up to 6 rows (3 facial and 3 purl). In this case, the 5th row is knitted as the 7th.

Hello, friends!

Today, my dears, we knit braids. Every knitter sooner or later comes to the conclusion that you need to master these knitting techniques. After all, knitted products with various braids and plaits look beautiful and rich!

For beginner knitters, knitting braids at first causes some difficulties. Therefore, let's take it step by step, with a description of how to knit some of their types. And then, if you master the technique and basic principles of knitting, then in the future you can even perform very complex, intricate patterns with braids, plaits and arans.

So, let's begin. Knitting all, without exception, patterns with braids, aran knitting, based on the technique of moving loops. In order to reshoot the loops intended for moving, you need to acquire the so-called auxiliary knitting needles, which come in different thicknesses and look like this:

Or like this:

Ideally, the auxiliary knitting needle is taken a little thinner than the main working knitting needles.

When knitting with an auxiliary needle, the loops intended for shifting are shifted onto this knitting needle, and left either in front or behind the work. Then, having knitted the next loops in a row, they knit the loops already from the auxiliary knitting needle (see photo). Moreover, you can knit loops either directly from this knitting needle, or return loops from it to the main left knitting needle, and then knit - as it is more convenient for anyone.

But even if for some reason you don’t have such knitting devices, it doesn’t matter. For this purpose, you can use an ordinary safety pin, although this is not so convenient (I will tell you a secret - I often do it myself).

Let's take a look at what loop movement is on the example of the simplest braid. We will perform it on 8 loops. For the sample, we will dial 14 loops (12 loops for the braid and its “frame” + 2 edge loops).

Pattern Description:

1st row: 2 purl, 8 facial, 2 purl;

2nd to 4th row we knit, what does knitting look like- we knit facial loops over the front ones, purl loops over the wrong ones (photo 1).

photo 1 - knitted the first 4 rows

5th row: 2 purl, 4 loops reshoot, without knitting them, on an auxiliary knitting needle and leave in front of the work; Knit the next 4 loops (at the beginning of their knitting, try not to have a big broach between the loops). Then we transfer 4 loops from the auxiliary knitting needle to the left knitting needle and also knit them with facial ones. It turned out that our loops seemed to be crossed with a slope to the left (see photos 2 and 3).

photo 2 - remove 4 loops on an auxiliary knitting needle and leave ahead of work

photo 3 - remove the removed loops on the left knitting needle and knit with the front ones

6th to 12th row - we knit according to the pattern.

And if you knit such braids in a row in a row, you get such an elegant pattern:

Such simple braids can be performed on 4 and 6 and on 10 and even on 12 loops, the main thing is that the number is even. It all depends on how thick you are using yarn and what “sweep” of the braid you want to get.

But it must be remembered that the more loops for the braid, the more it shrinks when the loops are shifted, and therefore the yarn consumption will increase. In addition, you can adjust how many rows to shift the loops. The more often (through a smaller number of rows) you move the loops, the “tighter” the braid will be twisted, the less often - the braid will be freer and will not tighten the canvas so much. It all depends on your taste and preferences.

You can knit a simple braid, leaving loops on the auxiliary knitting needle not in front, but behind the work. Then your braids will no longer intertwine to the left, but to the right. Here's what it looks like:

In more complex braids, combinations with shifted loops are used, both to the left and to the right, and various combinations of the number of loops intended to be moved can also be taken into account. And it is because of the ability to create such different combinations that we can create so many beautiful patterns.

Now let's look at a more complex braid. Here already, as I said above, we move the loops both to the left and to the right.

Pattern Description:

Braid on 16 loops. We collect 22 loops for the sample (16 for the braid, 4 for the “frame”, +2 hem loops).

1st row: 2 out, 16 persons., 2 out.;

From 2nd to 6th row: knit according to the pattern;

7th row: 2 out., 4 loops to remove on the auxiliary knitting needle and leave behind the work, knit the next 4 loops, then knit the front 4 loops from the auxiliary knitting needle; Remove 4 loops on the auxiliary knitting needle and leave in front of the work, knit 4, knit 4 loops from the auxiliary knitting needle, knit 2;

From the 8th to the 14th row: knit according to the pattern;

15th row: repeat the pattern, starting from the 7th row.

And here is a pattern resembling braided pigtails. How to knit it, you can find on this page.

By combining loop offsets in a different way, you can get such a pattern (see diagram and description ):

In the examples given, the braids are made along the front surface. But there are exceptions when both elastic bands and smaller pigtails are intertwined. For example:

A slightly different principle in Aran knitting: there are already paths from the front surface moving in various intricacies along the wrong side. And if in braids we move the loops, dividing their number equally (for example, a braid of 6 loops: we move 3 each), then here we can, for example, move 2 or 3 loops of the front surface along the top, and 1 loop of the wrong side along the bottom smooth. But the principle is the same - reshoot, move:
