Master classes for more complex paintings with step by step photos

It is possible to master the skills of creating quilling paintings in several ways: by enrolling in a special circle, where professional craftsmen will teach the secrets of technology; having bought a book with basic schemes and rules of work; Check out the online masterclasses. Creativity should start with simple elements: single flowers or plants (daisies, gerberas, mountain ash), light crafts, postcards, gradually complicating the technique, increasing the number of elements, creating voluminous panels. The master classes below with photos will help you create your first quilling paintings.

Painting from a bouquet of flowers

Pictures of twisted paper elements, with the right shades and types of elements, look quite realistic and very beautiful. Of particular delight are panels depicting bouquets of flowers, and they can be different - from simple daisies or forget-me-nots, to more complex works, for example, with gerberas, lilacs, asters, peonies. For additional decor, different beads, sparkles and other decorative elements can be used.

Necessary tools for creativity:

  • The basis for the panel (it can be glossy paper, thick or starched fabric or plain cardboard). Sometimes the background is painted over to create realism.
  • Sliced paper elements for quilling (width can vary from 0.3 cm to 1 cm). The choice of color depends on personal preferences, in this master class pink, orange, green and light green shades are used.
  • Scissors, stationery knife.
  • PVA glue.
  • Silicone adhesive.
  • Decorative elements.

Step-by-step instructions for creating a picture:

  1. At the heart of the picture are eleven large flowers, for each of which it is necessary to make a middle. To make the core, you need to cut the paper of pale pink and green colors one centimeter wide into a fringe. Using a toothpick, it is necessary to wind tight spirals. The middle should be pink with a green edge.
  2. The remaining segments intended for flowers must be twisted with a free spiral so that in the future it will be possible to give them the necessary shape.
  3. We begin to prepare the flowers: squeeze the orange elements, giving them the shape of a “leaf” and glue 3 parts together at the very base.
  4. Give the pink spirals the shape of a “drop”, two of which must be glued between the orange elements, and the remaining 2 on top of them, as a result, a blank for a flower should be obtained. See an example of a petal in the photo:
  5. Glue the required number of petals and cover each with orange paper to give them a finished look.
  6. To assemble the flowers, a silicone glue gun is used. Initially, all the petals are glued together, and then the middle is attached to the top.
  7. To create a bud, you need to make a roll and slightly push it out until you get a cone. Lubricate the middle with glue and attach the petals there.
  8. To create leaves, you need to give the green spirals the shape of an “eye” and glue them together to make a branch of greenery.
  9. Assemble the composition by gluing all the elements on silicone glue, add decorative elements, sparkles to make it more realistic and arrange the panel in a frame.
  10. An amazing delicate picture is ready, look at the photo for an example of design:

How to make a picture in a winter or New Year's motive

On the eve of the New Year holidays, I want to decorate a room, office or any other room with an original painting that will help create the necessary atmosphere, a sense of a fairy tale and approaching magic. It is possible to make a panel using a wide variety of creative techniques and skills. The quilling style picture looks original and unusual, which can be created by children (working together with their parents) or novice masters. If you want to make a more complex robot, you should add a few elements or make the panel voluminous.

To create a Christmas tree picture you will need:

  • Quilling paper 0.5 centimeters green (various shades can be used to make the Christmas tree realistic). If it is not possible to find special blanks, you should make it yourself by cutting double-sided colored paper into segments of the desired width and length.
  • PVA glue (it should be as thick as possible so that the parts stick together and hold well).
  • Scissors.
  • Toothpicks or an awl.
  • Decorative elements for decorating the Christmas tree: beads, beads, shiny threads or small tinsel.

Step by step job creation:

  1. To get started, you need to decide on the size of the future Christmas tree, which determines the number of elements that will be used for work.
  2. Cut the paper into fringes using small scissors.
  3. Using a toothpick, create tight spirals, fix the edges with PVA glue.
  4. Fluff up the fringe, creating an object.
  5. Glue the elements of the composition onto the base, making up the Christmas tree.
  6. Decorate with decorative elements to make the tree become a New Year's tree.

Craft in the technique of contour quilling

With the help of twisted paper elements, paintings can be created in different techniques. Contour quilling has won the hearts of many creative people, because with the help of this method it is possible to make unique paintings, real works of art. A distinctive feature of this technique is that it practically does not use full filling, but only the creation of contours. To work, you need any picture, the contours of which will be used to create the composition. Let's consider a master class of a simple children's panel in the style of contour quilling.

For work you will need:

  • Paper for quilling, 0.5 cm wide in different colors.
  • The scissors are small.
  • Awl, toothpick or pin.
  • Glue for fixing elements - PVA and a glue gun for assembling crafts.
  • Tweezers and a decommissioned pen.

Step by step creation:

  1. To get started, you need to trace the outlines of the picture with a non-writing pen so that they are all printed on cardboard, where the composition will be created. It is important not to miss even the slightest detail.
  2. It’s worth starting with large details, this will help to do the job as accurately as possible. Attach paper of suitable colors to the formed contours and cut off the required length.
  3. Lubricate one edge of a piece of paper with glue and attach to the place where you want to mark the contour, it is important to clearly fall into the outlined boundaries - this will create a harmonious composition. To facilitate the gluing process (especially small parts) it is necessary to use tweezers.
  4. If there is a lot of free space between the contours, it is worth filling it with additional details to give the picture charm.
  5. The picture in the style of contour quilling is ready.

Looped quilling

One of the varieties of quilling is the loop technique. It is based on the creation of elements in the form of eyelets, using various improvised tools (pins, comb). With the help of such a seemingly simple technique, creative people can create true masterpieces, beautiful paintings that will please the eye and cheer up every time they look at them. This technique is used to create various kinds of flowers, butterflies, less often for landscape or wildlife elements. Consider the step-by-step creation of forget-me-nots with looped quilling.

For work you will need:

  • Double-sided colored paper for cutting segments or a special quilling kit.
  • Glue stick and PVA.
  • Scissors.
  • Comb comb.
  • Toothpick, orange stick or awl.

Schemes for creating paintings using the quilling technique

To create a quilling pattern by professionals, only fantasy can be used. It is sometimes extremely difficult for novice creative people who are just mastering the technique to create the perfect panel on their own, correctly calculating the size and number of elements, arranging all the details of the composition so that everything looks harmonious. It is not always possible to choose the right element and place it advantageously. Special stencils, schemes for creating certain paintings can help in undertakings, look at the photo for examples:

What is quilling?

The quilling technique is the creation of paintings and voluminous works from twisted strips of paper of various colors. She is quite economical, since it does not require special cash costs, it is easy to learn and suitable for any beginner.

Quilling products

This technique is used to create all kinds of postcards, Christmas decorations and just cute voluminous trinkets to decorate the room, for example, snowflakes, butterflies, flowers, valentines, as well as whole quilling paintings and panels - real works of art.

Master class: do-it-yourself quilling crafts

To begin with, we will prepare the necessary for work materials.

First, this quilling paper. You can buy already cut strips of various colors from 4 to 15 millimeters thick in a craft store, or you can make them yourself from double-sided colored paper for printing. It is important that its density is not less than 100 g / cubic cm. Thinner paper will not hold the desired shape and can easily tear. To do this, line a sheet of paper into strips with a pencil and ruler, and then use a cutter or scissors to cut them along the lines.

Secondly, you will need anything, what can these stripes be wound on. They can serve as a toothpick, an awl, a thick needle (for convenience, you can break off the eye half of it to insert the end of the paper strip into the resulting “slingshot”).

If you are going to make a panel or a picture using the quilling technique, then you also need the foundation, on which parts from strips of paper will be attached. It can be thick cardboard or even plywood.

To make even rolls of the same size, it is better to use a stencil of circles of different sizes. These are sold in stationery stores and are rectangular plastic plates with a ruler along the edge and round holes of various diameters.

And of course, you will need glue - to fix the parts and connect them together. PVA works best for this.

Where to begin?

In order to easily perform work in the quilling technique of any complexity, beginners must first learn how to make basic elements, such as:

From ready-made basic elements, by flattening and stretching them, you can get many others, for example, droplets, leaves, an eye, a heart, a triangle, a rhombus or a square.

Quilling: step by step instructions

There are many schemes and master classes for quilling, choose the one that you like and is suitable for complexity. Flowers and floral motifs, birds, butterflies, snowflakes, hearts are very popular in quilling.

Simple quilling work

Letters or any symbols filled inside with quilling look interesting. They are similar to lace products, only much more colorful and bright.

Quilling for beginners, diagrams with descriptions

First, let's do the simplest quilling craft - a snowflake. It can be hung as a room decor for the New Year or other winter holiday. Let's take a simpler scheme, for example, the one below. So, the master class is a snowflake using the quilling technique.

Then it's time to start making beautiful compositions consisting of flowers.

Here you can get acquainted with several workshops on making flowers. Models are different, from the simplest to the most complex, but they are all, without a doubt, beautiful.

Be patient and boldly start!

Quilling. The flower is simple.

Let's start with the simplest flower.

1. Prepare a sheet of colored paper in a square shape. Its dimensions should be approximately 10x10cm.

2. Draw a spiral inside the square.

3. Using scissors, cut the spiral along the drawn line.

4. Using a special quilling tool (which can be replaced with an awl, needle or toothpick), twist the paper in a spiral.

You should get such a rose. Having made several of these flowers, you can come up with a beautiful composition.

Quilling flowers. Delicate color schemes.

To make such delicate flowers, you need to create several blanks.

1. To make the middle, cut the fringe. In this example, 11 large flowers and 4 buds are used.

2. To make the middle of a large flower, prepare a peach-colored paper strip (1 cm wide and 30 cm long), and green (1 cm wide and 10 cm long).

* For the manufacture of buds, the width of the paper strips must be left, and the length should be halved.

3. Start twisting the fringed centers of the flowers. Glue a green strip to the first peach stripe.

4. Prepare 3 orange elements and make a "leaf" shape out of them. These blanks need to be glued at the base - use just a drop of PVA glue.

* Do not glue the petals together, they need to be fixed only at the bottom.

5. Prepare 4 peach-colored paper blanks and make a teardrop shape out of them. Next, you need to glue 2 "droplets" into the gaps that you will find between the orange "petals". The remaining 2 "drops" need to be glued on top - you will need to step back from the edge of the base by about 5mm.

6. Now you need to glue the petal on top with an orange edging (all elements have the same width - 3mm). In total, for one flower there will be 5 of them. The same number for buds, but smaller in size.

7. To collect flowers, use a thermal gun.

8. We make leaves. Prepare 4 strips about 3mm wide and 30cm long. These strips need to be twisted into a tight roll, and then rolled up between the thumb and forefinger so that it takes the shape of a cone.

It is necessary to prepare 4 cones and grease each with glue in order to glue the petals of the buds and the middle into it.

9. We collect leaves. Prepare 5 blanks and give them the shape of "eyes". Next, you need to glue all these blanks together, applying glue only at the base.

10. Insert 4 more blanks between the leaves. From above you need to add 3 more elongated blanks. Squeeze the side of the paper.

You can use several shades of green.

The more greenery you use, the more beautiful the composition will look.

Fringed flowers using quilling technique (master class)

For these colors, you will need strips 10mm and 5mm wide, and no more than 25cm long.

1. Start cutting the fringe. Its size is 2/3 of the width of a 10mm strip. It is worth noting that the thinner the fringe, the more fluffy your flower will be.

You can cut the fringe on several strips at the same time.

2. Glue one paper strip 10mm wide and one 5mm wide and start winding the spiral, starting with a narrow strip.

Keep twisting even when you get to the fringed strip. At the end, simply secure the ponytail with glue.

3. After the glue has dried, the fringe can be folded back.

This is what happens if you twist only the fringed strip. Yellow flowers can play the role of dandelions, pink - daisies, and green centers for flowers.

You can safely change the length and color of the fringed stripes by gluing them in advance.

Volume flower in quilling technique

First you need to choose the color of your product. If you want a two-tone flower, you can pick up two similar shades.

For one petal, choose a strip 65 cm long. It is necessary to prepare 22 such strips by gluing several small strips into one long one.

1. Twist all cooked strips into tight rolls.

2. Unroll each roll to a 2cm diameter.

From the resulting elements, you can create many beautiful, and at the same time not very complex flowers.

You can make the task more difficult by slightly improving each diamond with a knitting needle, an awl, a toothpick, or a special quilling tool. Just twist the corner of each element a little.

4. Ready for the middle. To do this, you need to tightly twist a strip 10.5 cm long. If you want to make the middle two-tone, glue two strips of different colors together.

5. Prepare a wider paper strip. You can also make it two-tone by gluing two strips together.

6. Make a few small cuts on the new strip.

7. Now you need to wrap the middle with a wide strip and glue it.

8. We make the base of the flower. The base will be in the shape of a cone. .

Here is a simple instruction for the base: cut out a circle with a diameter of about 3cm. Draw a radius with a pencil and cut along the radius line. Now you can make a cone from the circle - use glue to fix it.

9. Glue 2 rows of petals into the cone along with the middle.

10. You can make 10 leaves following the same instructions as the petals and glue to the back of the cone.

Quilling paper flowers. Carnations.

1. Make vertical cuts on a wide strip of red.

2. Wrap a toothpick in green paper and secure with glue.

3. Glue the beginning of the strip to the stem and start winding it. At the end, fix it with glue.

4. After which you have completely wound the paper tape, start straightening the flower.

5. Make petals from strips of green paper and glue them to the stems.

If you make not vertical, but diagonal cuts on the strip. That will turn out to be such a variant of the flower.

DIY quilling flowers. Asters.

Prepare double-sided colored paper, scissors, rhinestones, quilling tool, glue.

1. Prepare a paper strip 30 cm long and 2.5 - 4 cm wide and fold it in half lengthwise.

2. Make a few small cuts on the strip.

3. Using a quilling tool (as already mentioned, it can be replaced with a toothpick, awl, needle, etc.), twist the strip.

4. After you twisted the brow roll, carefully from the outside, begin to turn off the fringe.

You should get such a flower.

For different sizes of flowers, vary the size of the stripes.

How to make quilling flowers. Dandelions.

Prepare strips of yellow thick paper in two shades (for flowers), green paper strips (for leaves), crumpled paper (for stems and buds), scissors, tweezers, glue.

The width of each strip should be 3.5cm. Two strips as long as an A4 sheet are enough for one flower.

1. Prepare 3 strips to cut into petals. Fold each strip in half lengthwise and fold towards each other as shown in the picture. Next, you need to cut the petals about 0.5 mm in size.

2. Using a quilling tool, twist one yellow strip and secure its tip with glue. Next, wind two orange strips over the yellow strip, after gluing them into one long strip.

* You can fix the flower from below with glue.

* Gently unfold the petals.

3. We make leaves.

Prepare a small green paper rectangle. Fold it in half and cut out the shape of a leaf.

4. Squeeze the leaf into an accordion to make it more realistic.

5. We make a button.

Prepare 1/3 of the paper strip and cut the petals. Twist the strip into a roll and secure with glue.

From the crumpled paper, cut a strip 1.5 - 2 cm wide. Glue its edge, put a bud on it and wrap the paper. Just twist the rest of the stem.

6. If you want to make a beautiful composition of flowers and buds, prepare the base of thick paper or cardboard.

Glue all the elements to the base. The first thing to glue is the flowers, and then the rest, smaller details.

How to make quilling flowers. Roses.

As always, you will need quilling paper, a ruler, glue, wax paper and pins.

1. Make a drop shape from a pre-prepared element. This will be your button.

2. Glue 5 petals together to make a flower.

3. Now make another same flower for the second layer of paper rose, but make the petals smaller. To achieve this, just do not spin the workpiece too much.

4. Prepare a strip of yellow or green paper and fold it like an accordion as shown in the picture. You will get stems.

5. Glue the stems to the paper.

6. Fold a small piece of paper in half and, using a quilling tool, twist the right end to the right and the left end to the left.

7. It remains only to fold everything on paper and glue it into one bouquet.

For beginners

What is quilling? The art of twisted paper strips to make beauty.

Quilling is, simply put, paper rolling. Or, as it is also called, paper filigree. Its meaning lies in the fact that compositions are made up of twisted long paper strips, which have been given a certain shape. For example, they can serve as a picture or decoration on a postcard. There are several basic forms used in quilling, although nothing limits the master's imagination. But first things first.

Materials and tools.
What is needed for all this?
Stripes. Where to get them?
The first way: cut from colored double-sided paper (office or origami). IMPORTANT: the paper should not be very thin (have a low density), because. in a twisted state, it may not hold its shape very well. The width of the strips varies from 1 mm to several centimeters. The usual width is 3-5 mm.
The second way: buy in specialized stores. The strips are sold already cut and have a suitable density.

Twisting tool. It is needed to smoothly and conveniently twist the strips. Again, there are several ways to get it:

First way: Let's take an ordinary toothpick. Cut off the narrow part from one end:

On the remaining blunt part, we will make an incision of about 5 mm, for example, with a clerical knife:

The tool is ready.

Second way: Take a ballpoint pen. Better used, so that goodness in the form of ink does not go to waste. Why not from gel? Because the radius of its rod is large enough, and this is not good. So, we took the rod and do the same manipulations with it as with the alleged toothpick. It will turn out like this:

Ready to use.

Third way: buy in the store.

Glue. PVA from a bookstore is best suited for quilling purposes. In some cases, you need a glue stick.

Base paper. The one on which we will stick our twisted beauty. Suitable for both plain paper and cardboard. It all depends on the product we are making.

Scissors. It is best to use small scissors with thin, sharp tips.

Tweezers. Optional tool. It is necessary in order to hold curls, it is convenient to stick or apply glue. You can find it in a pharmacy or store.

Rolling technique and basic forms.

We take the tool and the strip, insert the tip of the strip into the slot of the tool and start winding it, creating a uniform tension:

Now carefully remove the wound strip from the tool. What happened is called a roll or spiral. If at this stage we glue the tip, then we will get one of the figures - a tight roll (tight spiral). But the most basic element in quilling is a free roll (free spiral). It is obtained when we do not immediately glue the tip of a tight spiral, but let the paper unwind to the desired degree, and after that we fix the end. It is from this figure that a wide range of other forms is obtained. Such forms are called closed. Let's consider some of them. I remind you that the ends of all are fixed.

A drop: move the center of the free spiral to one side, and squeeze the other with two fingers and release.

Triangle: make a drop, and then flatten the rounded part so that it becomes straight.

Arrow: we make a triangle, after which we press the middle of its base inward.

Eye (leaf): compress the free spiral from both sides at the same time and release it.

Rectangle: We make a leaf, and then similarly compress the two remaining sides.

Align the corners.

Semicircle: We pinch two areas of the free spiral and straighten the space between them on one side.

Crescent: make a semicircle, then push through the middle of the straight area.

And now let's talk about the figures that are not obtained from the main form and are called free. Let's consider a few. I draw your attention to the fact that the ends are not fixed anywhere with glue.

Horns: take a strip, fold it in half, and twist each half outward in opposite directions.

Curl: without bending the strip, we twist one half of it in one direction, and the other in the other.

Twig: fold the strip in a ratio of approximately 2 to 1 and twist both parts in one direction.

Heart: fold the strip in half and twist each half inwards.

That's all. Creative success in quilling :)

Here is an example of a postcard made in this technique:
